The Tidepool news filter's latest edition is posted Monday through Friday.
President Bush's recent environmental theme trip to the Pacific Northwest presented Tidepool's editors with an excellent opportunity to showcase their website's qualities.
The editions of August 22 and August 25 were densely packed with news about the presidential trip and related issues.
Increasingly, Tidepool's summaries and links for articles in other publications are complemented by original reporting and opinion columns. Editor Ed Hunt says he is committed to upholding "journalistic distinctions between news and commentary."
Hunt's own weekly ebbTIDE columns address what he regards as the biggest story or issue of the week. Managing Editor Derek Reiber's weekly greenTIDE column deals with "green business" matters.
Each summer, Tidepool sponsors an environmental reporting intern with the Chinook Observer, a newspaper in Washington State. This year's intern, Kelly Stewart, published work that included an in-depth series on tree farming.
Other original content includes articles published through an agreement with the Sustainable Industries Journal, including a recent one about a Seattle chef.
Tidepool's parent organization and publisher is Ecotrust, a Portland-based environmental group whose activities range from promoting the region's seasonal, locally grown produce to assembling a geographic information system with "biophysical, social, economic and cultural databases."
