The Yale Forum on Climate Change & The Media is scheduled to launch online around the start of October.
Edited by Bud Ward, founder and editor of this website and its predecessor newsletter, the new journal will focus on media coverage of climate change science, impacts, policy, adaptation, energy and economic implications, and health effects. A major goal will be to continue efforts to improve communications between the media and leading climate scientists and researchers, a goal consistent with the National Science Foundation-funded workshops highlighted on this home page (see Science and the News).
The new Yale Forum, officially announced in early September at the 17th annual meeting of the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ), will feature nearly one-dozen distinct editorial departments and will include both original reporting and first-hand submissions from leading climate scientists and journalists. The publication will focus not on climate change per se, but rather on the communication of information to the general public concerning climate change and its potential impacts and "solutions."
Early features will involve "How I Did That Story" accounts of particularly important stories dealing with climate change; profiles of leading scientists and journalists dealing with these issues; advisory "best practices" and "pitfalls to avoid" for both scientists and news media representatives; Q and A exchanges with scientists and journalists; and expert sources to address specific ranges of media questions on climate change.

And we invite you to continue visiting environmentwriter.org for ongoing updates on important environmental journalism issues.
The Yale Forum is an initiative of the Yale Project on Climate Change, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Yale University.
