Grantham Prize for Excellence
in Reporting on the Environment

Prize Juror Bio

Dennis Bueckert is National Affairs Reporter with Canadian Press in Ottawa, where he focuses on environment, health, and science. Bueckert joined Canadian Press in 1983 and reported on negotiations leading to the landmark Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances. Since 1987, his coverage as National Affairs Reporter has included reporting on the 1993 Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit, the 1995 UN Population Conference in Cairo, negotiations leading to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, and the 2002 Monterrey, Mexico, UN Conference on Human Development. Bueckert previously had worked as an editorial writer and reporter with, respectively, The Daily Gleaner in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and The Telegraph-Journal, in Saint John, New Brunswick. He is the winner of the 2001 Michener Award for Public Service in Journalism, administered by the Governor-General of Canada.
