Partners in Information Access
for the Public Health Workforce

(See www.phpartners.org/index.html)

The Partners in Information Access for the Public Health Workforce is a collaboration of U.S. government agencies, public health organizations, and health sciences libraries designed to help the public health workforce find and use information effectively to improve and protect the public's health.

The site includes a number of sections that could prove useful to environmental journalists. In the Health Promotion and Health Education section, the partners list the various programs available for general public information and education. For example, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality links to Bioterrorism Planning and Responses, Consumers & Patients, Fact Sheets, Preventive Services, Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence. The National Library of Medicine links to HIV/AIDS Information, Household Products Database, MedlinePlus, and ToxTown.

The Literature and Guidelines section links resources that access public health literature including journal articles, journals, newsletters, reports and other publications, and guidelines from a wide range of sources, not just to titles from members of the Partners project.

The Health Data Tools and Statistics section is divided into health statistics, national public health data sets, state and local public health data sets, public health infrastructure data, search for other tools, and tools for data collection and planning. Health statistics include:

  • CDC Data and Statistics - (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
