Camille Parmesan, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the University of Texas's Section of Integrative Biology in Austin. Parmesan's early research focused on multiple aspects of population biology, including the ecology, evolution, and behaviors of insect/plant interactions. More recently, her work has focused on current impacts of climate change in the 20th Century on wildlife. Parmesan's work on butterfly range shifts has drawn extensive national media coverage from the scientific and popular news organizations ranging from Science and Science News to The New York Times, the Times of London, and National Public Radio. David Attenborough's BBC film series, "State of the Planet," covered her research in this area. Parmesan has briefed the White House, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations (such as the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the World Wildlife Fund), on the interface of policy and science as it relates to climate change as an international issue. She was a lead author in numerous aspects of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Assessment Report. Parmesan, with the University of Texas Section of Integrative Biology since 2000, earned her Ph.D. from that university's Department of Zoology and conducted post-doctoral work at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
