Sarah Webb is one of two college students awarded participation in the University of Rhode Island science/journalism workshop. "Now being lured away from the laboratory bench" by her growing interest in science communications, Webb is a Ph.D. candidate in chemistry at Indiana University. A native Floridian, her interest in science journalism has developed concurrently with her gradual migration to cooler climates. She received a B.S. in chemistry and B.A. in German from Furman University in Greenville, S.C. After graduation she studied organic chemistry for a year on a Fulbright fellowship in Giessen, Germany. Webb currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana, where she has studied science writing in the IU School of Journalism. She has written articles on topics ranging from sociology to astronomy. She is also committed to furthering public understanding of science, and she works part-time at a children's science museum in Bloomington. In her spare time she enjoys traveling and singing. After defending her Ph.D. thesis in the spring, she is looking forward to the opportunity to write full time.
